The Administrative Training Institute
The
Administrative Training Institute was set up in 1962 in Sambra, Belgaum at an
airfield set up by the British in 1942. When the Institute moved to Belgaum, the
camp and its assets were transferred to the Indian Air Force.
When the Institute was first set up in 1962, its objective was to impart Joint Basic Combatant Training to airmen, freshly inducted into the Indian Air Force. Basic Combatant Training involves emphasis on discipline, mannerisms and physical training. In 1980, the curriculum extended its scope, by including training in some of the Non-Technical Trades as well.
Joint Basic Training, however still continues to be the most important function of the Administrative Training Institute. Almost all airmen inducted into the Indian Air Force are first imparted Joint Basic Training here and then routed to the various training establishments.
