Since its inception in 1971, the Air Force Academy (AFA) at Dundigal has built a formidable reputation as the premier training institution of the Indian Air Force. Situated 43 km from Hyderabad, it is also equipped as an Air Force Base to support flying operations. The Academy however, focuses its attention on training and related activities.

The institute was set up with the intention of training cadets from all streams at one central location. The Air Force Academy imparts training to the Flying, Technical and Ground Duty Branches as well as officers of the Army and Navy.
