The Electrical And Instrument Training Institute

ImageThe Indian Air Force established the Electrical and Instrument Training Institute in 1962. It was set up with the purpose of training airmen for the trade of Electrical and Instrument Fitters. After 1980, the institute extended its scope to providing training for Missile Fitters and Photo Tradesmen.

The Institute provides training for the following trades:

  • Electrical Fitters
    Individuals inducted to be Electrical Fitters are provided training for a period of eighty weeks. The training prepares them to undertake maintenance and upkeep of all aircraft, ground and armament related electrical equipment. This training begins after receiving basic combatant training at the Administrative Training Institute for twenty four weeks.

  • Instrument Fitter
    Airmen allocated the trade of Instrument Fitter are imparted training for eighty weeks in the maintenance and servicing of special instruments. However, they first receive basic combatant training for twenty four weeks at the Administrative Training Institute, before being routed here.

  • Plant Maintenance Fitter (E)
    After twenty four weeks of training at Administrative Training Institute, where basic combatant training is imparted, a period of eighty weeks is allocated for preparing airmen for the responsibility of Plant Maintenance Fitter. Their curriculum includes imparting a knowledge of engineering drawing, use of electrical measuring instruments, besides training in technical administration and logistic procedure.

  • Photo Technician
    Training is imparted to prepare airmen to undertake any task pertaining to indoor and outdoor photography, maintenance and installation of photographic equipment. The period of training is eighty weeks, after an initial period of twenty four weeks at the Administrative Training Institute for Basic Combatant Training.

  • Missile Fitters
    ImageAfter twenty four weeks of basic combatant training at the Administrative Training Institute, airmen assigned as Missile Fitters (Electrical) are given forty weeks of initial training. After this, Advanced Stage Trade Training is imparted for thirty two weeks to Missile Fitters (Electronics, Electrical and Mechanical Streams).

    The Institute also offers the following courses for in-service personnel:

    • Qualified Technical Instructors' Course for the Electronics trades
    • Conversion Training to photo technicians for a period of thirty six weeks
    • Specialist Phase Training for Plant Maintenance Fitters (E)
