Mechanical Transport Training Institute

ImageThe Mechanical Transport Training Institute was established in 1978 at Air Force station, Avadi. Training is imparted to airmen, who have just been inducted into the Air Force, for both the Technical as well as the Non-Technical Trades. The institute also trains Naval personnel to undertake driving of heavy vehicles.

Training programs are conducted for the following Trades:

  • Mechanical Transport Driver
    Individuals assigned to the Mechanical Transport Driver Trades are trained to drive and maintain all kinds of vehicles. They are also made proficient in the care and maintenance of tyres, tubes and batteries. There is also a QMTDI course for airmen already functioning as Mechanical Trade Drivers.

  • Mechanical Transport Technician
    The Institute imparts training in maintenance and repair of Mechanical Transport vehicles and related ground equipment.

  • Missile Fitter (M)
    Individuals allocated the responsibility of Missile Fitter are imparted basic workshop skills and trained to undertake construction of missiles, transportation of explosives and maintenance of common user vehicles.
